Ancient Carthage

The city and her empire, made famous by Hannibal’s struggle with Rome and the daring march over the Alps with elephants, followed by a string of victories still studied at modern military academies.

Who were the Carthaginians?

How did they live?

What deeds did they accomplish?

I see Carthage and Punic culture as a related part of Phoenician culture, with whom contacts were maintained. This blog aims to provide more information on this Phoenician influenced cultural sphere and the people they interacted with. While much is known about the seaborne contacts across the Mediterranean, Carthage had to the south a sea of sand and they crossed it to the lands of West Africa, or Ethiopia, as it was called back then. This blog sets out on a long journey to explore paths less taken and people less known that all connected via Carthage.
